The "Geoscience for Leaving Certificate Teachers" CPD programme, which is a newly added part of the Get into Geoscience initiative, continues to bring geoscience knowledge into Irish classrooms. Now in its fourth year, this successful programme continues to foster collaboration between educators and geoscientists, resulting in innovative teaching resources that help bring geoscience topics to life.
We are excited to announce a fresh suite of teaching materials co-created by teachers and geoscientists. These resources are specifically designed to align with the Irish curriculum, ensuring they are both scientifically accurate and classroom-friendly. Topics covered include coastal erosion, the changing role of peat, and radon, making them relevant to both the Leaving Certificate Geography curriculum and the newly introduced Climate Action and Sustainable Development subject. Some resources are also suitable for Transition Year students.
You can access the resources by going to our "For Teachers" page.
The Geoscience for Leaving Certificate Teachers CPD programme is a free professional development opportunity that takes place over six evening sessions from September to December each year. Organised by iCRAG, the Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences, in collaboration with Geological Survey Ireland, this programme empowers teachers to enhance their teaching with up-to-date, research-driven content through collaboration with practicing geoscientists.
For more information on these newly released resources and upcoming CPD sessions, teachers are encouraged to visit www.getintogeoscience.com. Let’s work together to inspire the next generation of geoscientists and bring cutting-edge geoscience into classrooms across Ireland!
